Palmer Report: Secret Service responds, but doesnt deny Donald Trump was at Trump Jr.s Russia meeting

Write down today’s date, because it may go down in history as the day that Donald Trump accidentally outed himself as having personally participated in a treasonous criminal conspiracy while he was trying to blame it on the Secret Service. As surreal as that sounds, it would serve as a fittingly bizarre punctuation mark on an already over the top scandal. And as of a few hours ago, it’s precisely the scenario that we’re now staring in the face.

Donald Trump sent his idiot attorney (no not that one, the other one) Jay Sekulow onto ABC News today with a rather strange excuse for Donald Trump’s campaign meeting with the Kremlin: if it had been illegal, the Secret Service agents in attendance would have put a stop to it. Of course that’s not how anything works. But it does seem to give away that agents were at the meeting. And that’s a remarkable revelation, because Trump Jr. wasn’t yet under Secret Service protection at the time; only his father was.

Very quickly, the Secret Service shot back with the following statement: “Donald Trump, Jr. was not a protectee of the USSS in June, 2016. Thus we would not have screened anyone he was meeting with at that time.” (source: link). If you read those two sentences very closely, you realize that the Secret Service is merely stating that Trump Jr. wasn’t under protection at the time. It’s not saying that its agents weren’t at the meeting.

If there were no Secret Service agents at this meeting, the easiest way for the Secret Service to get itself fully out from under this mess would have been to confirm that its agents were not at the meeting. But instead it sidestepped that detail. And if agents were at that meeting, it means Donald Trump himself was also at his son’s collusion meeting. Trump may have accidentally finished himself off today. If you find Palmer Report valuable, make a donation.

Palmer Report: Good job, Donald Trump, youve pissed off the Secret Service and they know all your secrets

Police and other law enforcement officers risk their lives to protect others all the time. But the Secret Service is unique in that its agents specifically protect political figures. In some instances they’re risking their lives to protect people they just finished voting against, which is remarkable if you think about it. Those agents will keep dutifully providing that protection no matter what. But now we’re about to find out if they’re willing to leak secrets to take a criminal political figure down.

That’s because Donald Trump’s attorney Jay Sekulow just dragged the Secret Service directly into the Trump-Russia scandal. He posited that if Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with the Kremlin representatives had been illegal, the Secret Service agents present would have intervened, perhaps not even allowing the Kremlin characters into the room. The Secret Service quickly fired back by pointing out that it wasn’t even protecting Donald Trump Jr. at the time (link). But this is about to get messy for the Service Service, and therefore politically precarious for Donald Trump.

Trump’s attorney just opened up the Secret Service to a significant amount of scrutiny. The public and the media will now demand to know what the agents would have done in such a situation: would they have intervened? What degree of criminal behavior on the part of a political figure are agents willing to overlook in order to maintain the sanctity of the protection process? And yes, the media will ask if Secret Service agents were in fact present at this meeting, as a way of trying to determine whether Donald Trump himself attended his son’s meeting.

And so Trump just made things very ugly for the Secret Service in an unfair way. Again, they’re professionals. They won’t stop doing their job of protection, nor should they. But now we’re going to see whether the Secret Service agents who have been protecting the Trump family are willing to leak the illegal things they’ve seen and heard. It’s not even clear that they should. But after today’s transgressions, they just might which makes today one of Trump’s most self defeating days yet. If you find Palmer Report valuable, make a donation.

Palmer Report: Secret Service to Donald Trumps lying attorney: nice try, genius

That didn’t take long: the Secret Service is already pushing back and confirming that Donald Trump’s attorney Jay Sekulow is lying. This marks a swift demise for Trump’s new ‘blame it on the Secret Service’ defense, which was bound to backfire, and shows just how thoroughly out of excuses he and his legal team are. It also just made things a whole lot worse for Trump.

Sekulow appeared on ABC This Week earlier today and tried floating the notion that there couldn’t have been anything illegal and Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with Russian government representatives during the campaign, because the Secret Service would have intervened and broken it up. But anyone with even a basic understanding of law enforcement knows that’s not how the Secret Service works. And anyone with a pocket calendar knows that Donald Trump Jr. didn’t have Secret Service protection way back at the time of his June 9th, 2016 meeting.

That made it particularly easy for the Secret Service to immediately speak up today and make the following statement: “Donald Trump, Jr. was not a protectee of the USSS in June, 2016. Thus we would not have screened anyone he was meeting with at that time.” (source: Reuters). In fact this was too easy. The Secret Service didn’t even have to get into the legalities of the meeting, or who might have been in attendance at the meeting; it simply had to broadly point out that it wasn’t protecting Junior at the time. But it gets worse for Trump.

As Palmer Report pointed out just before the Secret Service issued its statement, the only possible way that agents could have been present at that meeting is if Donald Trump himself was in attendance (link). The Secret Service still isn’t saying whether or not its agents were at the meeting. But if records prove that the agents protecting Donald Trump were present, then it proves Trump attended the meeting and participated in the illegal collusion plot. If you find Palmer Report valuable, make a donation.

Palmer Report: Donald Trumps lawyer scapegoats Secret Service, giving away that Trump was probably at Russia meeting

Donald Trump’s bumbling lawyer Jay Sekulow appeared on live national television today and tried making the argument that if Donald Trump Jr. had been doing anything illegal in his meeting with the Kremlin, the Secret Service would have stepped in and stopped it. That’s a nonsensical argument on just about every level most of all because Donald Trump Jr. didn’t have Secret Service protection that early on in the election. In fact only one person in the Trump campaign did.

That’s right, Donald Trump’s lawyer probably just gave away that Donald Trump himself was indeed in attendance at his son’s Russia collusion meeting. Think about how Trump and his lawyer would have come up with this new and weird defense. They’d have been brainstorming, and Trump would have mentioned that when he was in the meeting, his Secret Service agents didn’t try to stop it. And then Trump’s lawyer, not being particularly smart about things, would have said “There’s our defense. We’ll just say that the Secret Service didn’t intervene.”

To be clear, the Secret Service would not have intervened in such a thing. Their job is to physically protect the candidate, not to act as general crime fighters. If the candidate was crossing a clear and immediate legal line by punching a protester, or plotting to blow up a bridge, perhaps they’d intervene to stop it. They surely have policies in place for these kinds of hypotheticals. But it wouldn’t be their job to make a judgment call about whether a conversation between the candidate and representatives of a foreign government crosses the technical legal line of collusion.

Again, the only possible way the Secret Service could have been in attendance at this Russia meeting is if Donald Trump himself was also in attendance. So the fact that Trump’s lawyer has invoked them is a giveaway that Trump probably was at that meeting. Now we just have to follow that trail and prove it. If you find Palmer Report valuable, make a donation.

Donald Trump is only pretending to run for reelection, and now we know how hes pocketing the money

Donald Trump isn’t running for reelection; he’s only pretending. No president campaigns for a second term while he’s still in his first few months in office. Yet Trump has been holding events and fundraisers under the guise of a 2020 reelection campaign, which he’s already technically kicked off. but it’s been exposed as nothing more than a front so he can pocket the money he’s raising. And now we know how he’s funneling it back to himself.

Over the past three months, Donald Trump has used his campaign funds to pay more than two-thirds of a million dollars worth of legal fees to attorneys representing himself and his son Donald Trump Jr. in the Russia scandal, according to his campaign’s public disclosures (source: Politico). So now we know why Trump has been so eager to hit the road and hold reelection fundraising events: he’s using that money to pay bills that he’s supposed to be paying out his own pocket, meaning he’s effectively funneling campaign money into his own hands.

Trump is trying to get around any legal hangups by listing the attorneys representing him and his family in his scandals as doing “legal consulting” for the campaign. According to the spirit of the law, that’s fraudulent. As a practical matter, it’s not clear whether he can get away with this or not. But two things are now abundantly clear. The first is that anyone donating to Donald Trump’s 2020 reelection campaign is actually donating to the attorneys who are getting rich off Trump’s treasonous scandals. Perhaps Trump’s base doesn’t care about the distinction. But it’s the second revelation here that has broader consequences.

In the highly unlikely event that Donald Trump somehow gets through this term without being removed by impeachment or resignation or the 25th Amendment, it’s possible he might decide to run for reelection. But he’s definitely not running for reelection as of yet. This “reelection” effort is nothing more than a fraud to pay his legal bills. Isn’t he supposed to be a billionaire? If Trump this desperate for cash, it further suggests that he’s as broke and deeply in debt to foreign governments as we all think he is. If you find Palmer Report valuable, make a donation.

The ace up Americas sleeve: Donald Trump is far more screwed than we are

So a career criminal conspired with an enemy foreign government to rig a United States presidential election, and now that criminal is occupying the office President of the United States. America is pretty screwed at the moment. In fact it hasn’t been this screwed in my lifetime. Who knows, maybe ever. We’ve never been subjected to this kind of treasonous crisis. But I’m going to let you in on a secret: the occupying criminal is far more screwed than we are. And that’s the ace up our sleeve.

If you’re an American right now, you’re in a tough spot one way or the other. You’re worried about whether we still have a democracy. You’re worried about your health care and your well being and your future. Many of your are worried about your basic civil rights. And there’s no minimizing any of that. But not a single one of you would trade places with Donald Trump right now. And it’s not just because you couldn’t stand the thought of being such a piece of filth. It’s because you know that he’s even more screwed right now than the rest of us are.

Trump is facing a federal criminal investigation that he’s tried and failed to stop, and it’s going to dig up everything he’s ever done wrong. He’s being tentatively propped up by his own party right now, but they’ll drop him in a heartbeat if his approval rating keeps dropping far enough, and they become worried about their own jobs. His own son and son-in-law are now being destroyed in real time, and he can no longer protect either of them. His family is finished. His marriage looks finished. The only reason he hasn’t resigned yet is that if he does, he’ll be immediately taken down by the State of New York for his decades of financial crimes. He’s a prisoner in an office he’s miserable in, and it’s getting worse for him by the day. And he’s trying to fend all of this off while his brain is clearly rotting from a degenerative disease. This is getting ugly for America, but it’s going to end far worse for Donald Trump.

In no particular order, America has overcome a civil war, Adolf Hitler, a depression, and even disco. This illegitimate occupation of the White House by a confirmed traitor is a whole new kind of challenge for us. But we can, and we will, overcome this. In the end, the will of the people will propel the Constitution to propel Donald Trump out on his ass. When his degenerative brain disease finishes him off in a few years, he’ll either die a lonely miserable broke man, or he’ll die in a prison cell. We’re in the fight of our lives. But Trump is going to lose this battle, and America is going to win. We always have, and we always will. If you find Palmer Report valuable, make a donation.

Trials of Donald Jr turn Russia scandal into another Trump family affair

Though the president is fiercely loyal to his children, some observers wonder if deepening and dangerous controversy might test such bonds to breaking point

It was an unseasonably cool day in New York. At 1.50pm on 9 June, Hillary Clinton tweeted that Barack Obama was backing her for US president. Half an hour later, Donald Trump tweeted: Obama just endorsed Crooked Hillary. At 2.27pm, Clinton replied: Delete your account. It was the most retweeted post of her campaign.
