Donald Trump Deleted Some Embarrassing Tweets After Alabama Loss

The president wiped his messages in support of incumbent Luther Strange.

Donald Trump is out of gas

It should have been a layup, really. So few people turn out in special elections to begin with, let alone primary races in special elections, that Donald Trump only needed to drive a few people to the polls in order to ensure that his preferred candidate Luther Strange won. Trump went the extra mile. He tweeted about Strange obsessively. He traveled to Alabama to campaign for him. Not only did Trump miss the layup, he landed flat on his back with the basketball hoop lying on top of him.

How could Trump have, at the risk of mixing sports metaphors, swung and missed so badly? Alabama is the epicenter of Trump’s support base, no less. But the old adage has turned out to be as true as ever: when you’re a popular president, you can do anything you want, and when you’re an unpopular president, you can’t do anything.

Numerically speaking, Trump’s approval rating isn’t any lower now than it was a month or two ago. But that simply means that the people on the fence about him haven’t crossed the threshold of no longer supporting him at all. What we’re seeing now, and seeing rather clearly, is that Trump’s support among his supporters is softening. His remaining supporters can no longer be bothered to even so much as show up and vote in a primary race at his behest. They’re no longer willing to lift a finger for him, and there’s a reason for it: he’s a failure.

Trump’s base may still believe in what he’s selling, but they’re no longer so willing to believe in his ability to sell it. He’s been in office for eight months, and he hasn’t come through on nearly anything. His Obamacare repeal is a failure. His wall doesn’t exist. He promised these things would happen day one. Even his fans can see that he’s failing at this. It’s part of why he couldn’t motivate them to go vote yesterday. He’s simply out of gas.

Robert Mueller probing Russian oligarchs multimillion donations to Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell

Back in May of this year, Palmer Report brought you the story of how a Russian oligarch had donated millions of dollars to certain prominent Republicans in the 2016 election cycle, some of whom weren’t even up for reelection (link). Over the weekend it was revealed that this same oligarch has been helping to pay Donald Trump’s attorney fees in his Russia scandal. Now it turns out Special Counsel Robert Mueller is probing all of the above.

The Russian oligarch in question has dual U.S. citizenship, making it technically legal him for to donate as much money as he wants to the Super PACs associated with the Republicans in question. But if that money was being funneled from the Russian government through the oligarch into those Super PACs, it would be a different story. According to an ABC News report (link), Mueller is now tracing back these donations to see what he can learn from them, along with donations made by two other prominent Russian-connected businessmen. Among the other primary beneficiaries of these donations: two Republicans who were in position to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.

Mitch McConnell received $2.5 million from the Russian oligarch in 2016, despite not being up for reelection. When the U.S. intel community uncovered evidence during the election that Russia was attempting to tamper with the outcome, it was McConnell who threatened to publicly accuse President Obama of partisanship if he dared to reveal the information to the American public. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker received $1 million. Trump went on to win Wisconsin in shockingly, and essentially impossible, fashion raising questions as to whether Walker may have used his role to somehow alter the outcome.

The oligarch has since begun paying Donald Trump’s attorney fees by donating the money to the Republican National Committee, which is then using it to pay Trump’s legal bills. This means, in effect, that the Kremlin is indirectly paying for Trump’s defense in the Russia scandal.

The post Robert Mueller probing Russian oligarch’s multimillion donations to Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell appeared first on Palmer Report.

Donald Trumps national anthem ranting takes its most bizarre turn yet

Whatever Donald Trump’s goal may have been when he decided to attack black NFL players for kneeling during the national anthem, he didn’t succeed. If he was trying to divide locker rooms along racial lines for his own benefit, it instead resulted in team unity. If he was trying to get NFL team owners to side with him, they sided with their players. And if he was just looking for a distraction, his Russia scandal isn’t going away. Now his anthem ranting has taken its most bizarre turn yet.

Over the weekend, more NFL players than ever took a knee as the national anthem played before their respective football games. NFL team owners stood arm in arm with their players, as some of those players took a knee. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones even took a knee with his players, just before the anthem. So how is Trump dealing with having lost this battle? Two words: Usain Bolt.

That’s right, Trump has decided to invoke the world’s fastest man in a bizarre attempt at keeping his feud with the NFL alive. He tweeted “Even Usain Bolt from Jamaica, one of the greatest runners and athletes of all time, showed RESPECT for our National Anthem!” But the included video merely shows Bolt pausing an interview while the anthem is being played. He didn’t want to talk over it. That’s not remotely the same thing as taking a knee during the anthem, which in no way interrupts the proceedings.

This also shows how badly Trump is reeling from having attacked two prominent black athletes, Colin Kaepernick and Steph Curry, on consecutive days. It gave away that his attacks were racially motivated. Now he’s feebly trying to push back against that notion by citing a black athlete who refused to talk over the national anthem. But even by Trump’s standards, none of it makes any sense. He’s trying to sustain a fight that he knows he’s already lost.
