Donald Trumps own adviser publicly attacks him

As Donald Trump continues to unravel and go further off the rails, he’s facing increasing pushback from all sides. His own Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called him a moron. Bob Corker, a Senator from his own party called him a toddler. America’s most famous athlete LeBron James called him a bum. Rapper Eminem called him things last night that are unprintable. Now even one of Trump’s own close longtime personal and political advisers is publicly attacking him for his behavior.

Trump doesn’t appear to legitimately have any real friends, but rather a collection of sycophants and partners in crime. The closest thing he has to a friend might be Thomas Barrack, who has served as one of Trump’s closest political advisers despite largely keeping himself out of the public eye in the process. But it appears Barrack has had enough. He’s staging what amounts to a de facto public intervention, by slamming Trump in a rare interview.

Barrack is telling the Washington Post that he’s “shocked” and “stunned” at Trump’s awful behavior and awful policies (link). Of course no one is actually surprised that Trump is acting this way; his deterioration is merely a logical extension of his awful behavior and policies during the campaign. But Barrack is clearly trying to use the media to send a message to Trump, saying “In my opinion, hes better than this.”

That’s the kind of passive-aggressive attack you only invoke when you’re trying to convince a friend that he’s lost his way. Tom Barrack could pick up the phone and say it to Donald Trump directly. Instead, he doesn’t appear to believe that would go far enough. Instead, Trump is now being publicly attacked by a guy who’s not only one of his closest advisers, but probably his only friend. It’s a sign that even those who know Trump and sympathize with him think he’s gone scarily off the deep end.

Donald Trump goes berserk over nuclear weapons, threatens to pull the plug on an entire TV network

Donald Trump apparently wants the ability to nuke any country he wants, and the ability to nuke any television network he wants. That’s the upshot after a TV network reported that Trump is looking to increase America’s nuclear arsenal tenfold and Trump responded by not only refuting the report (even though it’s thoroughly well sourced), but also by explicitly threatening to pull the plug on that network.

Trump has been attacking NBC News on a regular and escalating basis since it reported last week that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson had called Trump a “moron.” Now NBC is reporting a new inside story about Trump wanting to vastly increase the nuclear arsenal (link), at a time when even members of his own party have begun publicly pointing out that he’s too mentally unstable to be anywhere near the nuclear launch codes. The story was enough to send him off on the kind of berserk tirade that serves to prove his detractors right.

This morning Trump tweeted “Fake NBC News made up a story that I wanted a “tenfold” increase in our U.S. nuclear arsenal. Pure fiction, made up to demean. NBC = CNN! With all of the Fake News coming out of NBC and the Networks, at what point is it appropriate to challenge their License? Bad for country!” Because NBC is a broadcast network, Trump appears to believe that he can have the FCC revoke its broadcast license or transponder, literally pulling the plug on the network’s broadcasts.

It’s never been entirely clear whether the federal government has the authority to do so, because as has so often become the refrain during the Donald Trump debacle no other president has ever floated the idea of doing such a demented thing. Trump’s desire to increase the nuclear arsenal tenfold is enough of a reason to immediately impeach him. His threat to shut down NBC is just as valid of a reason for his ouster.

Congressman introduces Articles of Impeachment against Donald Trump on House floor

The impeachment process is a thousand steps, and this is merely Step One, but it officially happened today. Congressman Al Green has introduced articles of impeachment against Donald Trump today, reading them aloud on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. What may be most important here is that no one else in the House is even trying to interrupt him.

To be as clear as possible, a majority vote in the House is required just for impeachment hearings to begin and there is absolutely no indication that enough House Republicans are currently willing to side with the Democrats in order to start those hearings. But while Al Green’s articles of impeachment are not likely to lead to any imminent impeachment hearings, this is a major symbolic step in the process. The most important aspect in this process may be that Green’s speech is airing live on CSPAN and will receive airtime on various cable news networks. From a strategic standpoint, Green’s timing is perfect.

This comes just three days after Republican Senator Bob Corker stated for the record that he believes Donald Trump is going to get us all killed because he’s too psychologically unstable for the job. Because Corker is from Trump’s own party, that kind of thing goes a long way toward convincing the American middle which already largely doesn’t support Trump that it is indeed time for him to be ousted. Al Green’s articles of impeachment will receive significant attention from the media and the public because the discussion is already underway as to whether Trump is mentally unfit for office.

Congressman Al Green has been threatening to introduce these articles of impeachment for some time, and he appears to have been waiting for when he could land the most impact in the court of public opinion. Going forward, the question on the minds of the public may now be why the Republicans are refusing to impeach Donald Trump.
