Palmer Report: Yet another Donald Trump administration official forced to resign in disgrace

The list of people who have resigned from the Donald Trump administration, via scandal or controversy or alleged criminal behavior or other embarrassing fashion, is so long that it’s difficult to recite it from memory. As of today, yet another Trump administration official has resigned in disgrace and in this instance it’s a particularly hypocritical development, even by Trumpian standards.

Despite the separation of church and state mandated by the United States Constitution, there is a position in the Donald Trump administration called the “Director of the Center for Faith-Based & Neighborhood Partnerships at the Department of Homeland Security.” Reverend Jamie Johnson held that position until today, when he was forced to resign over inappropriate remarks he’d made before taking the job. His remarks are so over the top, they reveal that he’s not a legitimate reverend or religious leader, but a paranoid racist and a deranged lunatic.

Before taking the DHS job, Johnson would call into talk radio and attack black people for their “laziness.” He attacked Muslims, saying “all that Islam has ever given us is oil and dead bodies,” according to The Hill (link). He’s now apologizing and insisting that his own words somehow don’t represent his own views but that rings hollow, as he’s already made his true views plenty clear.

Jamie Johnson’s name is now added to a long and growing list of people who have controversially resigned from Donald Trump’s chaotic and dysfunctional administration. The list prominently includes Michael Flynn (alleged crimes against the United States), Sebastian Gorka (alleged Nazi), Steve Bannon (racist), Tom Price (financial scandal), Anthony Scaramucci (inappropriate remarks), Sean Spicer, Reince Priebus, and Keith Schiller (recently testified about the Pee Pee Tape). Trump has also inappropriately fired James Comey, Preet Bharara, Sally Yates and others in an attempt at preventing them from investigating his scandals.

Palmer Report: Robert Mueller finally drops the subpoena hammer on Donald Trump

Throughout his investigation, Special Counsel Robert Mueller has relied on a mix of voluntary cooperation, subpoenas, and arrests in order to get his hands on the evidence and testimony required to gradually build a cadre of criminal cases in the Trump-Russia scandal. Now we’ve reached the stage where Mueller is dropping the subpoena hammer on Trump himself, by going after Trump’s official campaign records.

Trump’s campaign had been voluntarily turning over some records requested by Mueller. But now things have dramatically changed, and Mueller has sent a subpoena to the Trump campaign, according to a new Wall Street Journal report (link). This strongly suggests that Mueller has begun getting close enough to the heart of the scandal that the campaign has decided to stop voluntarily giving him what he wants. With the gloves now off, Mueller is now forcibly going after Donald Trump directly, because a subpoena issued to the campaign is essentially a subpoena issued to Trump himself. But there’s more.

Although the WSJ is just now breaking this story, it turns out Mueller sent the subpoena around a month ago, and it’s just now becoming public. This is the latest instance of Mueller being several steps ahead of the media and the public when it comes to some of the most drastic steps he’s taking.

For instance, after Robert Mueller had the FBI raid Donald Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort’s house in the middle of the night, that news didn’t leak out for weeks. He also arrested Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos in July, but didn’t reveal the arrest until October, by which time Papadopoulos had already pleaded guilty and was deep into cooperating with the investigation. Whatever is going on with Mueller’s subpoena of Trump and his campaign, it’s likely progressed far beyond what is publicly known.

Palmer Report: Investigators catch Jared Kushner trying to cover up secret Russian dinner invite

Even as Special Counsel Robert Mueller continues to quietly but aggressively plug away at the Trump-Russia scandal in the background, parallel investigations in the House and Senate have also been approaching the same scandal from various angles. Now we’re learning that investigators in the Senate have caught Jared Kushner trying to cover up some sort of secret Russian dinner invite, adding yet another new chapter to the already complex Trump-Russia scandal.

Buried in the final few paragraphs of a new Wall Street Journal article which largely focuses on other topics, there’s a remarkable revelation. The Senate Judiciary Committee has recently been engulfed in partisan infighting. However, it’s now going after Kushner in bipartisan fashion over his failure to turn over certain Trump-Russia documents. The WSJ (link) characterizes the documents as relating to “a Russian backdoor overture and dinner invite.”

It’s long been known that Kushner had a series of secret meetings with the Russians during the transition period, first with the Russian Ambassador, and then with the head of a Russian bank. Those meetings also involved Kushner floating the idea of setting up backchannel communications through the Russian embassy. It’s not clear if the WSJ’s “Russian backdoor overture” is in reference to that incident or another unknown incident. Either way, the Russian dinner invite is new territory.

What may be most notable is that Jared Kushner is refusing to turn over the documents relating to that dinner invite, which strongly suggests that he fears he’ll incriminate himself or one of his allies by turning over that evidence. This amounts to an attempted coverup on his part. The Senate Judiciary Committee can, and likely will, subpoena the documents in question if Kushner continues to refuse to turn them over. It’s also possible that the committee already has the documents from another source, and this is merely a document trap aimed at incriminating Kushner for destroying evidence or obstructing justice.

Palmer Report: Russian Ambassador makes surreal confession in Donald Trumps Russia scandal

Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, who was consistently at the center of the Donald Trump campaign’s coordination with the Russian government, and who recently retired from the job, is back and he’s running his mouth in a fashion that could prove severely damaging to Trump. Kislyak went on Russian television and made a startling confession about the full extent of his role in the Trump-Russia scandal.

Kislyak is already known to have secretly met with Donald Trump, Jeff Sessions, Jared Kushner, and several other Trump campaign advisers during the course of the campaign and the transition period. So just how many Trump campaign advisers did Kislyak meet with? He was asked that question while being interviewed on Russian state-owned television. His answer, according to CNBC (link), is that it would take him “twenty minutes” to name them all. This is a surreal confession, not only because it points to even more Trump-Russia meetings that we don’t know about, but also because of the mere fact that he’s choosing now to admit it.

There are really only two plausible explanations for why Kislyak would appear on state-owned Russian television and admit this kind of thing. The first is that, for reasons known only to him, Kislyak is doing this against Vladimir Putin’s will in which case he’ll probably turn up dead soon. The second and seemingly more likely explanation is that Putin instructed Kislyak to go on television and say this. That would mean that Putin truly has decided to put the screws to Trump, as punishment for Trump’s failure to get the U.S. government to ease sanctions on Russia. If it is the latter, it may not even be the first time this week in which Putin has done so.

Days ago it was revealed that Donald Trump Jr was consistently communicating and coordinating with Russian puppet site WikiLeaks during the general election. It’s difficult to imagine this story having leaked unless WikiLeaks was the one to leak it, and that wouldn’t have happened unless Vladimir Putin wanted it to be leaked. Putin seemed to be harming Trump Jr to try to motivate Trump Sr. Now we have to ask if Putin is also trying to harm Trump by having Sergey Kislyak confess.

Palmer Report: New evidence says Robert Mueller is even further ahead of everyone than we all thought

For the first several months after he was appointed, Special Counsel Robert Mueller was working under such secrecy that it was nearly impossible to find any evidence for gauging his progress. In recent weeks, as the indictments and arrests have begun flying, it’s become clear that Mueller has been well ahead of the media and the public all along. Now we have new evidence which reveals he’s even further ahead than we thought.

On Thursday evening the Wall Street Journal was the first to report that Mueller had sent a subpoena to the Donald Trump campaign which demanded that certain documents be turned over (link). This represents a fundamental shift in the investigation. Up to now, Trump and his campaign have been voluntarily turning over whatever documents Mueller requested, in the hope of avoiding confrontation, because they figured the documents in question were harmless. The subpoena means that Mueller’s requests have now reached the stage of asking for severely damaging documents, prompting Trump’s people to freeze up instead of cooperating. The real story here may be the timing.

The WSJ is the first to report the subpoena story, but it’s reporting that the subpoena was sent around a month ago. This serves as the latest reminder that Robert Mueller is not only way ahead of us all, he’s managing to work so discreetly that it can take this long just for us all to find out what he’s done.

This comes after Robert Mueller managed to raid Paul Manafort’s home several weeks before it became public. He also arrested Trump adviser George Papadopoulos four months before anyone knew about it, and in that instance it only became public because Mueller strategically chose to make it public. So while the subpoena news means that Mueller is much further along with his probe than we all thought, even this new subpoena news is actually old news and we have no idea what else he’s been hiding up his sleeve.

The post New evidence says Robert Mueller is even further ahead of everyone than we all thoughtappeared first on Palmer Report.
