1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: It couldn’t be more obvious that Donald Trump’s kids know they’re going to prison

  •

Donald Trump has lost the midterms, the Democratic House is preparing to steamroll him, Special Counsel Robert Mueller is looking to finish him off first, and the state of New York is waiting in the wings if everything else goes wrong. Now that everything is about to go down, what are Trump’s kids up to? They’re all focused on the same thing – and it’s almost a laugh out loud giveaway.

Donald Trump Jr spent yesterday tweeting his support for the First Step Act. Ivanka Trump is also signaling her strong support for the First Step Act. And according to both of them, Ivanka’s husband Jared Kushner is also on board with the First Step Act. So what is this piece of legislation that’s suddenly so near and dear to their hearts?

The First Step Act is a federal prison reform measure. No, really. The three members of Donald Trump’s family most likely to go to prison for their role in Donald Trump’s crimes are now really, really, really trying to improve conditions and reduce sentencing guidelines for federal prisoners. You can’t make this stuff up. This is their last big swing in office, and they’re literally using it to try to reduce the prison sentences they might end up serving.

To be clear, prison reform is a really good idea. We’d like to see this kind of legislation passed, because long term prison sentences are not the answer for a lot federal crimes. But it’s nothing short of hilarious that Donald Trump Jr, Ivanka Trump, and Jared Kushner – who could all be indicted on a federal and/or state level by the end of the year – are now worried about the fate of federal prisoners. This is like a Seinfeld episode, but with traitors.

When asked what he is thankful for, US president turns to his favourite subject: himself

President Donald Trump used a Thanksgiving Day call to troops deployed overseas to pat himself on the back, and air a range of his favourite grievances.

Asked what he was thankful for this year, Trump cited his “great family” … as well as himself. “I made a tremendous difference in this country,” he said. “This country is so much stronger now than it was when I took office and you wouldn’t believe it and when you see it, we’ve gotten so much stronger people don’t even believe it.”

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Rudy Giuliani gives away the game as Mueller Time arrives

  •
  •
  •
  •

With top legal advisors such as Rudy Giuliani, “President” Donald Trump does not stand much of a chance of surviving his worsening criminal scandals. Giuliani is now insisting that there is no need for Special Counsel Robert Mueller to sit down with Trump, and his reasoning is more bizarre than ever.

Giuliani, in his normal nonsensical analysis, noted: “Any question he has on obstruction… the president has given [answers] in interviews, tweets. Other witnesses have given it to him. The law definitely requires that if you’re going to subpoena a president, you have to show that you can’t get the information any place else.”

Perhaps Giuliani is right. If we go down that path, we have the incident where Trump appeared in an interview with Lester Holt and gave his reasons for firing James Comey. Trump has also ranted publicly about reasons for firing Jeff Sessions. Trump also has stated that he fired Mike Flynn because Flynn had lied to the FBI, but also had asked Comey to drop the investigation into Flynn.

What Giuliani’s statements would lend credence to, perhaps, is the strange case of a sealed matter in federal court in Washington DC that Rachel Maddow has been discussing lately. On Tuesday, a 3,000+ word filing was made under seal with the court. Speculation is that this perhaps could be a subpoena of Donald Trump, and that his lawyers are fighting said subpoena. While we don’t know if it is directly related to Trump, it does seem to be connected to the Russia probe.

Perhaps Giuliani is trying to condition the public or convince Mueller. If it’s the latter, Mueller will do what he will do, and to quote Trump on his callous quote about the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, “It is what it is.” In other news on the investigation, Trump has submitted his written answers to Mueller. We eventually will learn what he said but can predict it had a lot of “no collusion” and “witch hunt” references and, according to Giuliani and his other legal eagles, Trump likely did not answer any questions about obstruction. But why would he? Trump has already publicly discussed it and tweeted about it. Mueller Time is here.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Thanksgiving checks and balances

  •
  •
  •
  •

America has many things to be thankful for and we as a country are truly blessed. We are the land of the free and the home of the brave. Ideals they may be, but they are very good ones. All we can do is try to be the best we can be, in a democratic environment that should encourage us to learn and spread our wings. This is the very essence of freedom, to be allowed to mess up and learn in our own unique ways.

Life is messy and sometimes we need laws to help regulate civility, as well as protect the community from criminals. So, at times our freedom may feel compromised, but we know, as Americans, we are protected by built in checks and balances that should prevent abuse of power. Our founding fathers knew that at the worst end of mankind, if unchecked, lies a tyrant. And that tyrant must be overcome by consistently elevating ourselves to higher standards.

As time progresses, hopefully society progresses as it learns from its mistakes. This is the reason we study history and government systems. Nazi Germany is a good example of this, and I don’t bring it up lightly. Holocaust remembrance is vital to our human history, so that we learn from our mistakes and are not doomed to repeat them. However, listening to Donald Trump is like taking a step back in human consciousness, and one has a sudden urge to eat a banana and scratch one’s armpits. History buffs recognize Trump from various lessons of the past, because there is always a Trump, just like there is always a cheesy bad guy in James Bond movies.

Of course, this being November, we Americans try to be a little more present with our gratitude. And while I am very thankful to be an American, and free to pursue my dreams, I recognize there is a deep disease in our government that is threatening the foundation of our society. Thomas Jefferson said that a healthy society should re-examine itself every few years, and even revolt if need be. I don’t think we need a revolution, but a new president would be the first step to restoring a healthy democracy. The bottom line is, we need someone who actually understands democracy and how it works, to represent our country and its people. Happy Thanksgiving.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Everything is converging at once, and it’s all about to land on Donald Trump’s head

  •
  •
  •
  •

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts seems to know something we don’t. Donald Trump has spent two years routinely attacking federal judges who rule against him, and Roberts has never said anything. But now Roberts, who seemingly sides with Trump on most of the issues, has come out swingin in defense of the judges in question. Why now? What’s changed? It’s the latest sign that everything is now rather swiftly coming to a head – and it’s about to land on Trump’s head.

Five days ago, Robert Mueller hinted in a court filing that he’d be making one or more major Paul Manafort-inspired arrests within the next ten days. Hours later, a U.S. Attorney’s office “accidentally” revealed that Julian Assange has already been criminally charged. The next day, prosecutors asked a judge for two weeks to work something out with accused Russian spy Maria Butina. Yesterday, Mueller made a three thousand word sealed court filing in what appears to be some kind of subpoena against Donald Trump – and moments later, Trump announced that he had submitted his written answers to Mueller.

What does all of this mean? It’s difficult to figure out precisely how all of these pieces fit together, but it’s rather easy to see that most or all of them do indeed fit together. More importantly, everything seems to be converging against Trump. Mueller, and the prosecutors he’s in league with, are still moving full steam ahead – and they appear to be just days from taking big swings.

There is no evidence, as of yet, that Donald Trump’s illegitimate appointment of the comically scandalous Matthew Whitaker has done anything to hinder what Robert Mueller is about to do. And now we’ve got the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, who could cast the deciding vote in rulings that decide whether or not Trump ends up ousted and in prison, suddenly making a very public point of telling Trump to go to hell. Enjoy your turkey!
