1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Did Donald Trump step on a rake?

  •
  •
  •
  •

Donald Trump just couldn’t stop ranting and raving and foaming at the mouth on Thanksgiving and Black Friday. He attacked judges. He made things up about climate change. He ranted about “bedlam, chaos, injury and death.” He accidentally tweeted a Chuck Schumer parody account. It was peak Trump, holidays be darned. Then something happened.

Donald Trump hasn’t tweeted anything in twenty-one hours. There was a generic retweet of the White House account somewhere in there, but that clearly wasn’t his own doing. Trump has gone completely silent. Yes, it’s a holiday weekend. But that didn’t stop him on Thursday or Friday. So what’s really going on here? There are a couple of plausible explanations.

The big news yesterday afternoon was that Jerome Corsi was negotiating a plea deal with Special Counsel Robert Mueller. This was a big deal for two reasons. First, if Corsi flips on Roger Stone, it could leave Stone with no choice but to flip on Trump. That would be devastating for Trump, because he and Stone have shady antics together that go back four decades. Second, this latest plea deal appears to signal that Mueller is still moving full steam ahead, and the newly installed Matt Whitaker isn’t succeeding in running meaningful interference.

Notably, Donald Trump went silent right after the Corsi-Stone news broke, and he hasn’t tweeted since. So maybe the prospect of his oldest friend Roger Stone flipping on him has stunned him into silence. Or maybe Trump simply stepped on a rake and knocked himself unconscious. After all, he seems weirdly fond of rakes.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Ecuador clears the decks for Robert Mueller to seize Julian Assange

  •
  •
  •
  •

Earlier this week, a U.S. Attorney’s Office partnered with Special Counsel Robert Mueller accidentally revealed that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has already been criminally charged. This wasn’t shocking news, but the big question was whether this was “accidentally” done on purpose in order to set things in motion with regard to his potential extradition. Sure enough, Ecuador – which has been shielding Assange for several years – just cleared the decks.

Ecuador has suddenly removed its Ambassador to the United Kingdom, along with essentially every other diplomat who had any kind of relationship with Julian Assange, according to CNN. There’s really only one way to interpret this move: Ecuador is indeed preparing to turn Assange over to the UK, as it has spent the past few months threatening, and it’s smoothing out the process by removing potential Assange allies from the building. So now what?

If Ecuador turns Assange over to the UK, there is every reason to expect that the UK will honor any extradition request from the United States. This would effectively allow Ecuador to turn Assange over to the U.S. for trial, while being able to save face by saying it was technically the UK that made the extradition request.

You have to wonder if Robert Mueller and his allies purposely made that “slip” about Julian Assange this week, as a way of signaling to Ecuador that it was time to give Julian Assange up. If so, it certainly appears to be working, as Ecuador just cleared the decks for Mueller by removing all of its own personnel who might be tempted to protect Assange on his way out the door.

Democrats ramp up pressure to act in wake of most sobering government analysis yet

The Trump administration attempted to downplay the stark findings of its own climate change assessment, as Democrats sought to pressure the White House to avert looming economic and public health disaster.

The US National Climate change assessment, the work of 300 scientists and 13 federal agencies, was released on Friday afternoon. It found that wildfires, storms and heatwaves are already taking a major toll on Americans’ wellbeing, with climate change set to “disrupt many areas of life” in the future.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Donald The Deranged strikes again

  •
  •
  •
  •

“President” Donald J. Trump, who has dismissed credible reports from the CIA about Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman’s role in the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, is now spewing more lies about how bad he feels about Khashoggi’s death. This is from the same man who issued an official White House statement that was so callous, so dismissive, and so utterly lacking in any decorum or demeanor about Khashoggi’s death and the fact that the United States would do nothing about it because of the economic benefits that would flow from Saudi Arabia buying our weapons. (The numbers, to say the least, were severely exaggerated.)

In the Newsweek piece, Trump has the audacity to state that he hates “the crime, I hate what’s done, I hate the coverup and I will tell you this: The crown prince hates it more than I do.” Again, compare this statement to his official White House statement, and this quickly falls apart.

Trump only hates that the issue will not go away because his administration purportedly intercepted discussions of MSB indicating how he wants to take out Khashoggi, his son-in-law was communicating with MSB the day before the murder, and the matter will not go away quietly. Germany, for example, cancelled contracts it had with Saudi Arabia. Like most everything in Trump’s life, the self-centered bloviator cares only about a “Me First” agenda.

The statement is just more of the deceit and danger that Donald Trump routinely creates. He has no idea how MSB feels about this, but we can all venture a guess – like many a killer, he probably has no feelings at all about the killing or the coverup. The CIA made it clear that MSB ordered the brutal assassination of Khashoggi. Given that the Crown Prince has used brutality before to punish people, he probably does not hate any of it. In fact, he is probably loving the fact that like Putin and like Kim, the Crown Prince has a dupe in the White House who will permit Saudi Arabia to do what it pleases with impunity. America should hate what is being done to this country by its “president.”

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Everyone always caves

  •
  •
  •
  •

Roger Stone really wants us all to believe that he’s never going to cut a plea deal against Donald Trump. Maybe Stone even believes it himself. But here’s the thing: we’ve heard this story before, and yesterday was as good a reminder as any of how the story always ends: everyone caves to Robert Mueller when it’s all said and done.

Stone’s pal Jerome Corsi probably thought he’d never cave either. But yesterday he confirmed to the media that he was indeed negotiating a plea deal with Mueller. Of course the weirdness playing out on Corsi’s Twitter account last night suggested that perhaps he was having a hard time with finalizing the decision. That’s understandable, considering what’s at stake when it comes to these kinds of plea deals: take a shorter prison sentence and sell out everyone around you, or take your chances in court with a prosecutor who never seems to lose?

There was surely a time when Paul Manafort thought he’d never cave. He even seemed to be holding out for a mythical Trump-Russia pardon, even though it’s gradually become clear that Donald Trump isn’t going to take the enormous risk of trying to pardon anyone in this scandal, or least not anyone outside of his own family. But Manafort caved, and he cut a cooperating plea deal. Michael Cohen found out he was about to be arrested, and he caved. Rick Gates Caved. Michael Flynn caved.

These are hardened people, some of whom have been (allegedly) running with the Russian mafia, some of whom have been committing serious crimes for their entire lives. But in the end, when faced with prison sentences that could have gobbled up most of their remaining natural lifespans, they’ve all caved. Not one of them has been willing to go down for Donald Trump. Now that Corsi is apparently caving on Roger Stone, is there truly any reason to expect Stone won’t cave on Trump?
