1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Everyone piles on after Donald Trump quotes some guy that no one has even heard of

  •
  •
  •
  •

Donald Trump is having a pretty horrible week for himself. The stock market, despite a minor rebound, is in the toilet. His criminal scandals keep getting worse. And his government shutdown stunt has backfired on him, because no one is willing to pay for his border wall, and no one outside his racist base wants it anyway. This prompted Trump to post a quote from, well, some guy. It didn’t go well.

Here’s what Donald Trump tweeted: “Brad Blakeman: ‘The American people understand that we have been played by foreign actors who would rather have us fight their battles for them. The President says look, this is your neighborhood, you’ve got to stand up to protect yourselves. Don’t always look to America.’” This led a whole lot of people to ask the same question: who is Brad Blakeman?

We did a bit of digging, and learned that he’s the former head of a Republican lobbying firm who is now mired in obscurity, save for the occasional Fox News appearance. Twitter users were not impressed. One respondent sarcastically tweeted “Wow, Brad Blakeman! A real heavy hitter!” Another simply replied, “Who the hell is Brad Blakeman?”

So this is all that Donald Trump has left to go on. So few people or pundits want anything to do with his imaginary wall or his disastrous shutdown or his failed presidency in general, he’s been reduced to quoting some guy that no one has even heard of – and the quote itself, of course, is ridiculous. Now that Trump is quoting Brad Blakeman, who’s next? Brad Paisley? Blake Shelton?

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Here’s how Michael Cohen can be telling the truth about Prague and the Trump-Russia dossier can be right anyway

  •
  •
  •
  •

Michael Cohen is still insisting today that he’s never been anywhere near Prague, even after reports that his cellphone was used near Prague during the timeframe in which the Steele dossier claims he was there meeting with the Russians. Cohen has confessed to numerous Trump-related crimes, and he’s going to prison for them – so why would he deny this one if it’s true? There’s a perfectly logical explanation.

Back when the FBI was raiding Michael Cohen’s offices, it seized sixteen different cellphones. It always felt like that was too many phones for one person, even a packrat like Cohen, and that some of the phones had to have belonged to other people. So whose phones would be in Cohen’s possession? For now, only he and Robert Mueller know. But we suspect this might come down to two words: burner phones.

Let’s say that Michael Cohen was the guy on Team Trump who bought up a bunch of burner phones and then handed them out to whoever needed one. But because he was the world’s most inept fixer, he was buying phones in his own name and handing them out. Then, instead of destroying them like you’re supposed to, Cohen was just throwing them in a drawer. It would mean that any number of Trump-connected people were running around using phones that were registered to Cohen’s name.

In such a scenario, Michael Cohen could have provided one of these phones to a member of the Trump Organization or Trump campaign who then went off to Prague. European intel then picked up that phone in Prague, assumed it belonged to Cohen, paired it up with separate intel about Team Trump meeting with the Russians in Prague, and assumed it was Cohen at the meeting. That intel then made it into the Trump-Russia dossier.

In such case, the Trump-Russia dossier would essentially be correct about Michael Cohen’s cellphone showing up near Prague even as Team Trump was meeting with the Russians in Prague; it would have simply fingered the wrong Team Trump member because the phone was registered to the wrong person. It’s entirely possible Cohen wasn’t even a part of the Prague plot; he simply provided a phone to a Team Trump member who asked for one. In any case, as Cohen said today, “Mueller knows everything.”

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: We’ve reached the nude selfie stage of the Trump-Russia scandal

  •
  •
  •
  •

The Trump-Russia scandal has already involved everything from a comically incompetent treason meeting at Trump Tower, to a red headed Russian spy, to the “Lock Her Up” guy trying to avoid being locked up, to whatever it is that Carter Page is supposed to be. Now, for better or worse, we’ve reached the nude selfie stage of the Trump-Russia scandal. No, really.

As part of his wide net of evidence collection, Special Counsel Robert Mueller has apparently scooped up a nude selfie of one of the Russian trolls he’s been pursuing, according to new court filings. This kind of thing happens through mere happenstance; Mueller demands that someone’s phone be turned over, it happens to have a nude selfie on there, it gets catalogued as evidence along with the relevant stuff on the phone, and next thing you know, you end up with a court filing like this. No one cares about this Russian troll, of course. So why does this matter?

Even as this story gets its fair share of fun headlines today, the real upshot is that it demonstrates just how deep and vast Robert Mueller’s evidence collection machine has spanned, and how impressively it’s worked. Mueller managed to obtain a Russian troll’s cellphone without the troll even getting a chance to delete the embarrassing stuff first, let alone the criminal stuff.

This means Robert Mueller has, well, everything. The only remaining question is when we start getting to see the evidence. Our working theory is that Mueller has been waiting to line up his big endgame moves against Donald Trump with the Democratic Party takeover of the House, which is set to take place on January 3rd.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Iraq government lashes out at Donald Trump after his stupid secret visit

  •
  •
  •
  •

Donald Trump’s decision to sneak off and visit U.S. troops in Iraq was a callously opportunistic move. After two years of refusing to visit combat zones, Trump was hoping to distract from the resignation of General James Mattis and his own bone spurs scandal. Trump spent the trip lying to the troops and exposing a secret U.S. mission, thus canceling out any good press he might have received from the trip. But now the trip has taken a catastrophic turn.

It turns out Donald Trump didn’t just keep his trip a secret from the American public. He also kept it a secret from the government of Iraq, and let’s just say that this isn’t playing well – at all. In fact the government of Iraq is now so outraged at Trump’s decision to violate its sovereignty without advance warning, it’s demanding that the U.S. withdraw all troops from Iraq. It seems Trump has taken his screw-ups to a whole new level.

Just how bad is it? This isn’t coming in the form of a polite request. The government of Iraq is calling Donald Trump “arrogant” and worse. This guy can screw up literally anything, just by standing near it. Now he’ll be left trying to explain that his little photo op just cost the United States whatever military goals it had in Iraq. This alone is worthy of impeachment and a unanimous vote for removal.

Other U.S. Presidents have visited the troops in combat zones numerous times, and none of them have ever created a diplomatic nightmare like this. Then again, other U.S. Presidents have all had some degree of competence when it came to planning these things. In contrast, Donald Trump has purposely surrounded himself in the White House with nothing but unqualified people, criminals, traitors, monsters, and idiots he owed favors to.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Michael Cohen addresses Prague report: “Mueller knows everything”

  •
  •
  •
  •

Earlier today, respected news outlet McClatchy reported that according to four inside sources, phone records show that Michael Cohen’s cellphone was near Prague during the timeframe in which the Steele dossier alleges he met with the Russians to plot out secret payments to election hackers. Now Cohen is reacting to the news, and his response is rather intriguing.

Although Michael Cohen has pleaded guilty to nine felonies and has turned over evidence that incriminates Donald Trump, he’s long publicly denied that he ever went to Prague. Now he’s tweeted this in response to today’s news: “I hear Prague CzechRepublic is beautiful in the summertime. I wouldn’t know as I have never been.” Okay, perhaps no surprise. Various people on Twitter then asked Cohen if he had ever been any where in the Czech Republic, and he said “NO.” But then he added this: “Mueller knows everything!”

Here’s the thing. Robert Mueller does indeed seem to know everything. Witnesses have been interviewed by Mueller’s team and then marveled publicly about just how much detail Mueller had already pieced together. Throughout Michael Cohen’s sentencing process, Robert Mueller’s office stated emphatically that Cohen had fully cooperated in the Trump-Russia investigation. Although the SDNY was far less happy with Cohen’s cooperation, that was with regard to other criminal investigations that were not part of the Trump-Russia scandal.

If Michael Cohen lied to Robert Mueller about Prague, Mueller likely would have known it, and would have busted him for it, instead of praising him for his cooperation. So is Cohen telling us the truth about there being no Prague story to tell, or did Cohen tell the Prague story to Mueller even while keeping it from the public? This just keeps getting stranger. But it sure feels like we’re very close to getting the real truth.
