1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Is this the end of Fox News as we know it?

As we count the increasing number of days in the Trump Shutdown, we simultaneously count down the remaining days in Donald Trump’s illegitimate presidency. Every day that goes by brings us that much closer to his removal from office. While his diminishing support base continues to rally around him, it appears that he may slowly be losing the full backing of some of his most trusted allies.

It has been said that if Fox News had existed in the early 1970s, Richard Nixon may not have been forced to resign, even after his illegal participation in the Watergate scandal became public. In spite of new evidence of Trump’s criminal, and possibly treasonous, actions coming to light practically daily, the only reason he is not losing more devotees is thanks to near constant lies and propaganda emanating from Fox News. Unfortunately for Trump, it would seem that his last bastion of hope is crumbling before our eyes. While Trump can likely count on Fox talking heads such as Sean Hannity and Lou Dobbs going down with the ship, some other Fox personalities are increasingly calling out the lies.

When Trump’s Press Secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders went on Fox News Sunday last weekend, she likely believed that she was among allies who would not challenge her lies. After Sanders made a false statement concerning immigrants, host Chris Wallace shot back, “Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. I know this statistic. I didn’t know if you were going to use it, so I studied up on this.”

Following Trump’s Tuesday night Oval Office address filled with lies, Fox News’ Shep Smith provided a fact check analysis on the fear mongering statements. Despite Trump doing his best to paint immigrants as monsters who seek out and commit crimes for fun, Smith stated, “Statistics show that there is less violent crime by the undocumented immigrant population than by the general population.”

Perhaps one of the strangest, and yet unexplained, situations relating to Fox News involves social media. The Fox News Twitter account has been silent for more than two months, with their last tweet occurring on November 8th. There are numerous rumors swirling about what caused this sudden Twitter hiatus. Regardless of the reason, things at Fox News certainly appear to be changing. Could this possibly be the end of Fox News as we know it? If that’s the case, we’re likely also witnessing the end of the Trump administration as well.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Get your popcorn: Matthew Whitaker is about to get carved up on live national television

  •

Even as Donald Trump tries to install his latest corrupt puppet William Barr to run the Department of Justice, it’s worth considering that his outgoing corrupt puppet at the DOJ, Matthew Whitaker, failed to do anything to stop Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Not only has Whitaker failed on every level, he’s in a heap of legal trouble – and we’re about to see him get carved up on live national television.

Earlier this month we brought you the news that the House Oversight Committee had asked Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker to voluntarily show up and testify about, well, every corrupt thing he and Donald Trump have tried to do. That’s surely the last thing Whitaker wants to do, but he can be forcibly subpoenaed and ultimately arrested for failing to show up, so he’s agreed to go ahead and testify.

It’s still possible that Whitaker will show up and give uncooperative and/or dishonest answers to every question. But that would just bring him back to the prospect of being forced to come back and testify under subpoena and ultimately get arrested. And even if he tries to be uncooperative, he’s proven that he’s very stupid, which means the Democrats should be able to confuse him into accidentally revealing important information about Trump’s crimes. They can also use their allotted time to spell out what they already know about the Trump-Whitaker plot for television audiences who may not yet know everything that’s been reported.

Matthew Whitaker is scheduled to publicly testify before the House Oversight Committee on February 8th. That’s the day after Michael Cohen is scheduled to publicly testify before the House Intelligence Committee on February 7th. The bottom line: get your popcorn ready.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ deputy resigns, joins the Democrats

  •
  •
  •
  •

Even as Donald Trump’s illegitimate and failing White House has continued to bleed personnel and become a ghost town, Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders has dutifully stuck around. However, she just lost her top deputy, Raj Shah. Not only did he resign, he’s taken a new job with the Democrats.

It’s not a surprise that Raj Shah has left the building, as the signs of his impending departure have been publicly visible for some time. It is somewhat surprising that Shah has taken a job working for a Democratic lobbying firm, according to the New York Times. It’s not uncommon for a lobbying firm to hire one person from the other party. We suppose Shah has benefited from having only gone to the podium a small handful of times to tell lies on Trump’s behalf, meaning his reputation isn’t all that damaged, and he’s thus still employable. But this departure raises questions about whether Sarah Huckabee Sanders is about to depart as well.

Several months ago, CBS News reported that Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Raj Shah were both planning to resign around the end of 2018. Sanders loudly disputed this report, and for once, she turned out to be telling the truth. But if the original report was that Sanders and Shah were planning to resign together, and now Shah has indeed resigned just two weeks after the timeframe CBS originally reported, does this mean the original report about Sanders departing was true as well? Is she secretly on her way out?

In any case, Donald Trump’s White House is emptier than ever, and not just because he shut down the government. He keeps whining on Twitter about how he’s all alone, and that’s largely because his own people keep resigning in scandal, or being controversially fired, or merely abandoning his sinking ship. Worse, he can’t seem to replace most of the people who are heading for the exits.

Trump likely to present Pentagon findings about changing threat as justification for his planned ‘space force’

Donald Trump will unveil a plan on Thursday for a major expansion in US missile defence that will rely on a new generation of space-based sensors.

The administration’s long-delayed missile defence review, which the president will present at the Pentagon, will call for the expansion of the US network of sensors and interceptors designed to identify and shoot down incoming projectiles from “rogue states” such as Iran and North Korea.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Kirsten Gillibrand says she’s running for president in 2020 – and everyone has the same question for her

  •
  •
  •
  •

Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a smart and bold liberal, announced last night that she’s running for President of the United States in 2020. She’ll bring plenty to the table in the Democratic primary race. However, there is one question she’s going to have to address, and she’ll probably have to do it soon.

Back when Al Franken was caught up in a sexual misconduct scandal, he asked for a Senate ethics investigation into himself, and he insisted that such an investigation would reveal he’d been set up. It’s widely perceived that Kirsten Gillibrand led the movement to oust him from the Senate before an investigation could be done, and that her actions essentially forced other Senate Democrats to quickly push him out.

After the fact, various isolated details surfaced suggesting that people like Trump ally Roger Stone were involved in the Franken scandal, raising still somewhat-unanswered questions about whether a full ethics investigation might have put everything in a different context and partially or fully cleared Franken.

Fair or not, there are a lot of liberals and Democrats who feel that Kirsten Gillibrand acted recklessly in getting Franken ousted without due process. If you want evidence of this, when Gillibrand announced her candidacy, both her name and Franken’s name began trending on Twitter as a result.

If things went down differently than how they’ve been widely reported, Kirsten Gillibrand will do well to quickly set the record straight about what role she didn’t play. And if the general perception is accurate, she’ll want to lay out why she felt compelled to handle it the way she did. She’s addressed this matter before, but clearly not in direct enough fashion to settle the ongoing questions about the matter.

To give you an idea of just how divided Democrats are when it comes to this matter, there have been numerous social media posts from Democrats who say that they have no interest in supporting Gillibrand’s campaign because of how she handled Franken. There have also been numerous social media posts from Democrats who say that it’s sexist to try to make Gillibrand the villain in Franken’s sexual misconduct scandal. The comments on this article will likely reflect the same. Fair or not, it’s up to Gillibrand to seize control of this narrative, or else it’ll keep writing itself.
