1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Donald Trump and Mike Pence are about to have the most uncomfortable lunch date of all time

  •
  •
  •
  •

As his world begins collapsing in on him, Donald Trump is going from doing very little “presidenting” to doing none at all. His public schedule for Monday is completely empty, apart from his customary lunch meeting with Mike Pence. This itself isn’t newsworthy; he dines with Pence on a regularly set schedule. But the lunch couldn’t be coming at a worse time for either of them – and they’re probably going to have some very cross words for each other.

For weeks, Donald Trump has reportedly been trying to poach Mike Pence’s Chief of Staff Nick Ayers to be the White House Chief of Staff. Ayers must have clearly said yes to the job, because Trump announced on Saturday that John Kelly was departing. Then on Sunday, Ayers suddenly decided that he didn’t want the promotion, and he no longer wanted the job he had. Trump and Pence both lost the guy they wanted, and now neither of them has a Chief of Staff. That’s a good way to throw a monkey wrench into the Trump-Pence dynamic – but it’s only the half of it.

Even as staffers make clear that they’re no longer betting on Trump or Pence surviving this, the two men are now trying to eat each other. The Michael Flynn sentencing memo on Tuesday seemed to be Robert Mueller’s way of telling Pence to start packing. Then, the next day, a story leaked that Trump was considering replacing Pence on the 2020 ticket. It’s not that either of them is going to be in position to run in 2020, but Trump’s decision to leak this nastygram was quite the way to publicly kick Pence while he was down.

So what on earth could Donald Trump and Mike Pence have to say to each other during their scheduled lunch on Monday? Will one of them blow it off at the last minute? Will they just spend the whole time throwing food at each other? There comes a point in every imploding regime where the principal players turn on each other, out of necessity or frustration or spite. They just don’t usually dine together while they’re eating each other.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: House Democrats lay the groundwork for ousting Donald Trump in a way that’s quicker than impeachment

  •
  •
  •
  •

When it comes to ousting Donald Trump, impeachment by the House followed by removal by the Senate is just about the slowest possible method. It would require using Trump’s crimes and scandals to gradually grind him into such a pulp, twenty Republican Senators end up convinced that they have to selfishly agree to remove him in order to protect their own political prospects. There are faster methods for ouster, and the House Democrats are now coalescing around one of them.

On Friday night, the U.S. Attorney’s office for SDNY formally accused Donald Trump of two counts of felony cheating in the 2016 election. Are any Senate Republicans going to agree to vote for Trump’s removal based on these two charges alone? No. There are, of course, dozens more felony counts coming against Trump before much longer. But House Democrats are already explaining to Trump that the minute his time as president is over, he’ll be indicted and arrested. So why is this a winning strategy?

On the surface, it sounds counterintuitive. If Donald Trump figures out that he’s going to prison the minute he’s finished as president, wouldn’t that make him less likely to ever resign? The trouble for Trump is that his time as president will end eventually – and the statute of limitations will still be in effect for many of the felony charges he’ll be facing. In other words, he’s going to prison for the rest of his life.

That brings us to what House Democrats are trying to do with this new narrative, which we’re now hearing this weekend from Adam Schiff and others. If they can convince Donald Trump that his life is over the minute his presidency ends, he may conclude that his least bad option is to offer his immediate resignation in exchange for some degree of criminal leniency. Don’t worry, New York state will still put him in prison for life. But he’s probably arrogant enough to think he can beat the state level charges.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Robert Mueller filing reveals he’s zeroing in on the money trail from Vladimir Putin to Donald Trump

  •
  •
  •
  •

“President” Donald Trump has stated that he had no deals with Russia, and he’s downplayed the Trump Tower Moscow deal as something he only pursued because he had no clue that he might win the election. Setting aside that being a businessman is no defense for potential criminal activity while running for president, including potential Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations, the Government Sentencing Memorandum filed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller informs us of how much of a “nothing (but dynamite) burger” the potential deal in Russia was to Trump.

The Sentencing Memorandum clearly outlines why Michael Cohen’s activities and misstatements about interactions were crucial. The Sentencing Memorandum states:

By publicly presenting this false narrative, the defendant deliberately shifted the timeline of what had occurred in the hopes of limiting the investigations into possible Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election—an issue
of heightened national interest.

The defendant’s false statements obscured the fact that the Moscow Project was a lucrative business opportunity that sought, and likely required, the assistance of the Russian government. If the project was completed, the Company could have received hundreds of millions of dollars from Russian sources in licensing fees and other revenues. The fact that Cohen continued to work on the project and discuss it with Individual 1 well into the campaign was material to the ongoing congressional and SCO investigations, particularly because it occurred at a time of sustained efforts by the Russian government to interfere with the U.S. presidential election. Similarly, it was material that Cohen, during the campaign, had a substantive telephone call about the project with an assistant to the press secretary for the President of Russia.

The defendant’s false statements to Congress began in approximately late August 2017, when he submitted his written statement about the Moscow Project to SSCI and HPSCI. His false statements continued through his oral testimony before the committees in October 2017. And when Cohen first met with the SCO in August 2018, he repeated many of his prior false statements about the circumstances of the Moscow Project. Only when the defendant met with the SCO a second time on September 12, 2018—after he had pled guilty in United States v. Cohen, 18-cr-602.

What’s a $50 million dollar penthouse gift, when you stand to gain hundreds of millions of dollars? This confirms Robert Mueller is zeroing in on the money trail from Vladimir Putin to Donald Trump. Like Jenga, the Trump Tower of crimes and deceit is tumbling down.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: The real reason Nick Ayers just bailed on Donald Trump and Mike Pence at the same time

  •
  •
  •
  •

It was already a strange scenario. For weeks, we’ve all heard that Donald Trump was planning to oust John Kelly as his White House Chief of Staff, and replace him with Mike Pence’s current Chief of Staff, Nick Ayers. Sure enough, yesterday, Trump confirmed that Kelly is resigning. Then today, out of nowhere, Ayers turned down the Trump job, and announced he was also resigning from his current Pence job. So what’s going on here?

There is going to be a lot of focus on Nick Ayers, but we don’t think he’s the story here. He’s saying he wants to spend more time with his family, but political figures always say that when they resign. The thing is, it doesn’t add up logically. By all accounts, Donald Trump has been increasingly relying on Ayers for advice for weeks. Ayers must have clearly signaled to Trump that he was definitely taking the job, or Trump wouldn’t have announced yesterday that Kelly was out.

Now suddenly, forty-eight hours after Trump was formally hit with two felony accusations, Nick Ayers has suddenly changed his mind and is bailing on a job that he had just 100% committed to. It’s not difficult to parse that Ayers now thinks Trump is going down, and doesn’t want to join the sinking ship.

Here’s the twist: if Nick Ayers merely thought Trump was toast, all he’d have to do is stick with his existing job as Mike Pence’s Chief of Staff, and he could ride Pence into the Oval Office. Instead, Ayers’ decision to resign from the administration entirely is a sign that he thinks Trump and Pence are toast. Perhaps he looked at the mention of the Trump transition team in the Michael Flynn sentencing memo, and concluded that Pence – who ran the transition team – is also going down.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Adam Schiff says Donald Trump is facing prison

  •
  •
  •
  •

From the start of Donald Trump’s illegitimate presidency, Palmer Report has pointed out that no matter how things play out along the way, there is only one possible outcome in the end: Trump going to prison. We’ve been told, even by some members of the Resistance, that we’re being too “optimistic” with this scenario. From our view, the facts and logic dictate no other possible outcome. Now the influential Adam Schiff is also talking about Trump going to prison, in exact words.

When Adam Schiff appeared on CBS Face The Nation this morning, he said this: “There’s a very real prospect that on the day Donald Trump leaves office, the Justice Department may indict him. That he may be the first president in quite some time to face the real prospect of jail time.” Schiff was strictly addressing the two felony accusations against Trump made by the SDNY U.S. Attorney’s office this week. But as we all know, there’s a lot more to it.

Schiff has been the ranking member on the House Intel Committee during the Trump-Russia investigation, meaning that he’s been briefed on sensitive information that almost no one else in the government knows. So he’s in a better position to know what’s soon coming down the pike, and he probably knows when it’s coming. Within perhaps weeks, we expect Trump to be formally facing dozens of felony accusations, some of which will be far more severe than the current two campaign finance felonies.

It’s also worth noting that House Democrats seem to be coalescing around the narrative that Donald Trump will be arrested the minute he’s no longer president. This may be an attempt at forcing Trump to realize that he’ll have to pay for his crimes in the end, and that his only chance for any degree of leniency would be to resign now and cut a plea deal. Even if Trump pleads out on all possible federal charges, the state of New York will still put him in prison on charges like real estate fraud and money laundering.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Donald Trump has berserk meltdown after Nick Ayers turns down White House Chief of Staff job

  •
  •
  •
  •

Just yesterday, Donald Trump confirmed the mounting reports that White House Chief of Staff John Kelly was planning to resign. By all accounts, Mike Pence’s current Chief of Staff, Nick Ayers, was set to take Kelly’s place. But this afternoon the news broke that Ayers is turning the job down, and is resigning from the administration entirely. Immediately afterward, Trump had a delusional, absurd meltdown.

When things get particularly bad for Donald Trump, he often reverts to the delusion that he’s the most accomplished president in American history. And when there are reports about personnel chaos in his White House, he starts insisting that everything is a smooth running machine. Now that everything is going wrong for Trump, all at once, he tweeted this screed:

“The Trump Administration has accomplished more than any other U.S. Administration in its first two (not even) years of existence, & we are having a great time doing it! All of this despite the Fake News Media, which has gone totally out of its mind-truly the Enemy of the People!”

So let’s try to parse this. Donald Trump seems particularly hung up on the idea that he’s accomplished more up to this point than anyone else ever has. That’s interesting when you consider that, on paper at least, Trump has more than two years left in office. Now that Trump has been formally accused of two felonies by the U.S. Attorneys office, with dozens more such felony counts against him forthcoming, it’s notable that Trump now seems to be framing things with the expectation that he’s near the end of the road.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Glitch in Donald Trump’s latest tweet suggests Rudy Giuliani has begun secretly tweeting for him

  •
  •
  •
  •

If you’ve been paying attention to Rudy Giuliani’s tweets in recent weeks, you’ve noticed that he’s been suffering from some kind of weird keyboard glitch involving his space bar. He’s begun putting two spaces between words at random, such as “because as president” and “demonstrates yet again.” He’s also putting spaces before commas, and leaving out spaces after periods. In other words, in addition to his brain being broken, his space bar is also clearly broken. Now Donald Trump is, rather interestingly, suffering from the exact same space bar glitch.

This morning Donald Trump went on a Twitter rant about the Trump-Russia investigation, and sure enough, began accidentally putting two spaces in between words at random. For all of Trump’s various Twitter fails, this historically hasn’t been one of them. But now that Rudy Giuliani’s space bar is malfunctioning, Trump’s space bar is also accidentally typing double spaces? This suggests that Trump’s rant this morning was actually written and posted by Rudy.

When Donald Trump had his surreal “Da Dang Dicks” meltdown yesterday, which read like LSD inspired poetry lifted from a bad horror novel, we wondered if it was really even coming from him. Yes, he’s that far gone mentally. But we’ve never seen any evidence that he’s that imaginative or creative. Now suddenly we have evidence which suggests that Rudy has begun doing at least some of Trump’s tweeting. Did Rudy write the Trump’s “Da Dang” screed as well?

One more thing of note: it’s difficult to accidentally type a double space between words on an iPhone, as it typically gets autocorrected into a period. So the spacing problem in the above tweets is probably a result of typing on a computer keyboard with a jammed space bar. By all accounts, Donald Trump only tweets from his iPhone, and doesn’t even use a computer. This further suggests that Trump’s latest tweets aren’t coming from him. Did Rudy write Trump’s “Da Dang” meltdown in the hope of setting Trump up for an insanity defense?

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Shocker: Fox News says Donald Trump will be indicted

  •
  •
  •
  •

Now that the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York has formally accused Donald Trump of committing two felonies, pundits left and right are debating whether he’ll be impeached and removed over it. In a shocker, Fox News now says it believes Trump will indeed be indicted.

Fox News pundit Andrew McCarthy says that he expects the SDNY to criminally indict Donald Trump on the two felonies in question, which center around Trump’s decision to order Michael Cohen to illegally buy the silence of his mistresses during the election. This comes just days after Fox legal analyst Judge Napolitano said he expects Donald Trump Jr to be indicted, and Fox host Tucker Carlson labeled Donald Trump a failure as president. So what’s going on here?

Fox News is all about ratings, not political ideology. It’s just that its business model is built around using propaganda to con the most gullible of conservatives into staying tuned in. Fox has only been pro-Trump because that’s where the bulk of its viewers have wanted it to be. But if Fox executives believe Trump is about to become so criminally exposed that even its viewers are going to lose hope and give up on him, it would make business sense for Fox to tell its pundits to begin turning against Trump. Last week Palmer Report suggested keeping an eye on this trend at Fox, and sure enough, Andrew McCarthy is escalating it significantly.

The interesting part here is that McCarthy’s legal analysis is largely sound. He acknowledges that there is a DOJ guideline against indicting a sitting president, but he points out – as Palmer Report has many times – that it’s absolutely not a law or even a binding rule. Still he’s not sure if SDNY will seek to indict Trump now, or wait until he’s gone from office.

It’s worth pointing out that the mistress payoffs represent no more than about 5% of the criminal cheating and rigging that Donald Trump did during the election, and no more than about 1% of the overall felony charges he’ll end up facing for a lifetime of crime. So if SDNY indicts him while he’s still in office, it’ll be something of a sideshow – but it could help legally establish that Trump can be indicted by Robert Mueller for his more serious crimes.
