1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Ted Lieu slam dunks Donald Trump

  •

  •

With his world collapsing around him in real time, Donald Trump spent Christmas holed up in the White House amid the government shutdown, whining on Twitter about how sad and alone he was (strangely, Melania was there at the time), and dreaming up fantasies about somehow salvaging his illegitimate and failed presidency. One of those fantasies involved magically funding a portion of his mythical border wall. It didn’t go well.

Donald Trump posted this tweet: “I am in the Oval Office & just gave out a 115 mile long contract for another large section of the Wall in Texas. We are already building and renovating many miles of Wall, some complete. Democrats must end Shutdown and finish funding. Billions of Dollars, & lives, will be saved!”

Various respondents pointed out that, thanks to Donald Trump’s poor grammar and usage, he had just unwittingly stated that he’d signed a contract that was 115 miles long. But Congressman Ted Lieu took a rather different approach to dissecting Trump’s nonsense.

Ted Lieu posted this in direct response to Donald Trump’s fantasy tweet: “On Merry Christmas Eve, POTUS is lying again about already building his wall. This is what caused conservative media to go berserk on Donald Trump in the first place. They understand Trump has not delivered on his promise that a wall be built and that Mexico pays for it.” Lieu is right; even Trump’s lackeys can see that he’s utterly failing in his increasingly histrionic attempts at building the imaginary wall they want so badly.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Donald Trump | The Guardian: Trump asks seven-year-old if he still believes in Santa – video

  •

US president Donald Trump and first lady Melania took Santa calls from children on Christmas Eve, in what looked like an enjoyable occasion for the couple. Trump can be heard asking a seven-year-old if he still was a believer in Santa, the president then listens in and laughs and says ‘because at seven it’s marginal right?’ Children from around the world phone the North American Aerospace Defense Command (Norad), which tracks Santa’s Christmas Eve trek around the globe. This tradition started in 1955 when a US Colonel rushed to answer the red phone, expecting the commander or president, but found a little girl on the other end asking if he was really Santa and decided to play along

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Donald Trump goes full Grinch, declares that America is a “disgrace” on Christmas Day

  •
  •
  •
  •

Donald Trump spent Christmas Eve whining about how sad and alone he was, and then he got on the phone and told a seven year old kid that Santa Claus doesn’t exist. Today he’s been comparatively quiet. But Donald did have something awful up his sleeve, and it came in the form of a disastrous Christmas press conference in the Oval Office.

Donald Trump decided to spread the, ahem, yuletide cheer today by using his press conference to viciously attack just about everyone. His list of grievances includes everyone from Democrats, to his own handpicked Federal Reserve Chairman, to – for some reason – long ago fired FBI Director James Comey.

Donald Trump’s heartwarming Christmas message to America: “It’s a disgrace, what’s happening in our country.” No really, he said that. This sounds like something from the Onion, but reporters were there with him, and they documented it. Even the foulest, crappiest of American presidents have still generally managed to say something decent and uplifting on a holiday like Christmas. Then again, Trump isn’t the “president” of anything.

Trump seems to understand deep down that this is all over for him and he’s lost. His gambit of committing treason with Russia to rig the election, and then hiding behind the presidency to protect himself from a lifetime of crimes, is finally backfiring on him. He’ll go to prison when he’s ousted from office. So will his kids. His assets will be seized. His criminal foray into politics is about to cost him everything. It’s why he’s sitting in the Oval Office on Christmas, clinging to the last moments of pretending to be president, before he’s hauled away.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Now the Secretary of the Treasury too?

  •
  •
  •
  •

Donald Trump was best known on the Apprentice for pretending to fire people. Now that he’s the pretend President of the United States, we’re seeing that he’s extraordinarily bad at firing people in real life. It took him two years to work up the nerve to fire Attorney General Jeff Sessions. He wanted Secretary of Defense James Mattis gone, so he pushed his buttons until he resigned in frustration. Now comes Trump’s half hearted attempt at ousting his Secretary of the Treasury.

Steve Mnuchin has been a disaster on every level as Treasury Secretary. He’s harmed the economy. It appears he’s been blocking requests for Treasury documents that Congress has made in the name of trying to get to the bottom of Donald Trump’s crimes. That means Mnuchin should be fired and arguably belongs in prison for obstruction of justice. Now Trump is finally talking about firing him, but not for any legitimate reasons.

Donald Trump has decided that, because the stock market has begun collapsing as a result of his own failures, someone in his administration must take the blame. Yesterday he publicly attacked his own Fed Chair Jerome Powell, but sent stocks plummeting further, making clear that investors are siding with Powell over Trump. So now, on Christmas Day, Trump is letting it be known that he’s considering firing Steve Mnuchin instead. There are three huge problems here.

First, this would leave the administration with no Secretary of the Treasury, at a time when it already has no Attorney General and no Secretary of Defense, making America even more unstable. Second, as hideous as Mnuchin is, no respectable candidates will want the job, meaning Trump will end up naming one of his worst flunkies as “Acting Secretary of the Treasury” and bypassing Senate confirmation hearings in the process. Third, the stock market would react even more negatively to this, as Mnuchin certainly has more understanding of the economy than Trump does.

1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Donald Trump | The Guardian: US government shutdown will last until deal on border wall: Trump – video

On Christmas morning, the US president drew a line in the sand: money for his border wall or the shutdown will continue. The partial US government shutdown took effect after the Senate failed to pass a budget that included the US$5bn he demanded for a wall. Democratic senators are offering US$1.3bn for border security – the same amount that was allocated in 2018. Now each side blames the other, with no sign of renewed negotiations between lawmakers on Capitol Hill or with the White House

    1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: Donald Trump launches into deranged Christmas Day meltdown

    •
    •
    •
    •

We almost got through Christmas Day without a horrible tweet from Donald Trump. The piece of traitorous human excrement currently stinking up the Oval Office merely tweeted “Merry Christmas” this morning. It almost seemed like he was punking us. The most cartoonish villain in American history, on his last legs before ouster and imprisonment, wasn’t even going to try to ruin Christmas for us? Then it happened.

Just as Americans on the east coast were sitting down for Christmas dinner, Donald Trump posted this ridiculous tweet: “I hope everyone, even the Fake News Media, is having a great Christmas! Our Country is doing very well. We are securing our Borders, making great new Trade Deals, and bringing our Troops Back Home. We are finally putting America First. MERRY CHRISTMAS!” He then added the white supremacist slogan “MAGA” to the end of it.

So let’s see here. The traitor illegally occupying the office of President of the United States is using his final Christmas as a free man to viciously attack the free press. He’s also bragging about his imaginary accomplishments, and he’s taking credit for having obeyed Vladimir Putin’s order to withdraw the U.S. military from Syria. Because hey, in Trump’s toxic waste dump of a mind, Christmas is all about him.

What a worthless lump of coal this guy is. His Christmas Day meltdown comes after he spent Christmas Eve whining about how sad and alone he was, so it’s not shocking that he wants real Americans to be as miserable as he is. Of course the only way he can make the country happy at this point would be to resign and surrender himself for criminal trial.

    1. Trump from Michael_Novakhov (198 sites): Palmer Report: The insider’s guide to Donald Trump’s impeachment

    •
    •
    •
    •

It is not inordinately starry-eyed nor optimistic to suggest that 2019 is going to be Donald Trump’s final year as, ahem, “president.” In Nixonian terms, we are on the threshold of 1974. This would not be so easy an assertion to make were it not for the events of the last two weeks. I’m reluctant to enumerate them all, even in part, because I’m bound to forget some disaster that has befallen the Trump White House in the preceding fortnight. But it’s hard to compare the Trump of, say, a month ago with the Trump of this holiday season. Back then, he’d merely hit the iceberg. By now the water is up to the portholes in First Class.

We have Bill Clinton’s former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich to thank for a bit of insight into the panicked minds of the loyal opposition. Forget what Sarah and Kellyanne are saying, things are not going well, and White House propaganda and other horseshit aside, everybody, and I do mean everybody, knows it. Mr. Reich has a friend who is a former member of Congress and he puts it this way. “Trump is in deep shit.”

According to Reich’s friend, as soon as the Robert Mueller report is published, Nancy Pelosi will finally have her raison d’etre for putting impeachment on the table. Accordingly the Democratic House will draft articles of impeachment, probably numerous ones, that will credibly inculpate Donald Trump with high crimes and misdemeanors.

The Senate will be duly empaneled to hear the condemnatory charges. All forty-seven Democrats will already be on board. All that will be required will be twenty Republican votes. And according to Reich’s friend, those nineteen are already available. For Trump, impeachment and conviction will mean disgrace, loss of pension and an open road to civilian criminal prosecution with absolutely nothing to negotiate and nothing to keep him from spending the rest of his life in prison. Yes, 2019 is going to be an interesting year.
